Requirements for JEFFREY DIY Installation

Fixing Surface

We recommend Jeffrey posts are fitted into Timber, Concrete or Steel. You will need to ensure you have a good solid structure for your fixings underneath.

If you are trying to fix down into Slabs or Tiles, you risk cracking as the posts are fixed down. In this scenario, a better option is to use our Stainless Steel Posts as they can be cored down through the tile to sit directly on the substrate.

Top rail/Handrail

With our Jeffrey System, if the deck is more than 600mm from the floor level on the other side of the balustrade, there must be a handrail. This is to comply with Part L of Building Regulation.

Top rails come in both a rectangular and oval shapes to suite square and oval Marano posts. They will be supplied in 5.8m and 3.0m lengths and must be cut to suit. When ordering more than one length, we will supply couplers.

If you require a frameless balcony, that still needs to comply with risk of falling, our Frameless System is a perfect choice.

Bolt down or Side Fix Posts

Most posts will be bolt down with a few exceptions.

Bolt Down require 110mm of clear space on the deck to be fixed down onto, and come in end, mid and corner posts. The posts are spaced every 1 metre. When selecting how many corners you require, we will calculate what posts are needed.

Side fix is normally used when for example, you are using railway sleepers on the end; or alternatively, need to maximise the deck space. they are only available in end or mid posts, so corners will be two end posts with a small gap.

With both bolt down and side fix posts, you have the choice of fitting the glass either flush to the top of the post, or by leaving a 80mm gap at the top.

Corners

Jeffrey posts only have a 90 degree post. If you require any other angle, we would use stainless steel posts as they can be altered to suit any angle.

Full Fitting Service

We also provide a full installation service if required. For fitted jobs, please contact us
